We are committed to sustainability with the largest industrial photovoltaic installation in Gipuzkoa

At Izadi Mecanizados we care about the planet and sustainability. We have therefore redoubled our commitment to innovation by installing solar panels on the roof of our multifunctional pavilion. This industrial photovoltaic installation will allow us to be more sustainable, reducing CO2 emissions and saving on costs.

We are committed to sustainability, both environmentally and economically. For this reason, we have invested a great effort in developing a photovoltaic installation for industrial self-consumption that has become the first of its kind in all of Guipúzcoa”.

Beltrán Ybarra, General Manager of Izadi Mecanizados

How did the idea of implementing an industrial photovoltaic installation arise?

The year 2021 has seen record-breaking electricity prices, a fact that has affected both Spain and Europe. But in addition to the high economic cost of electricity, we cannot forget the environmental cost it entails. Yes it is true that these CO2 emissions from electricity generation were slightly reduced in 2021 (source: Statista), but it is not enough. As a company, we are committed to sustainability.

In addition to this commitment to sustainability, we have expanded our facilities: we now have a 9,800 m2 multifunctional pavilion where we offer our machining services. This industrial building, which houses 67 machines, required very high energy consumption, so we considered an alternative that would allow us to be more sustainable: What if we installed solar panels on the roof?

To evaluate the cost and feasibility of the project, we turned to Berdín Grupo, a company we had previously worked with for the lighting of our facilities. Its energy department was in charge of the technical study of consumption and the subsequent development of the installation.

What does it mean to invest in a photovoltaic project of these characteristics?

This type of installation is recommended when most of the company’s activity is concentrated during the day. This is because the highest energy demand coincides with the hours when solar energy is generated the most, that is, when the panels’ performance is maximized.

Back to our case: A PV inverter array with a total power of 605 kW, consisting of 1,406 solar PV panels of 430Wp, and 5 HUAWEI inverters, has been installed on the roof of our multifunctional pavilion. This translates into an installation that, according to forecasts, will generate 572,784.90kWh of energy annually, coordinating production with the optimal distribution of consumption.

What benefits do we expect with this industrial self-consumption photovoltaic installation?

Given that this energy is produced during peak hours, it is estimated that the economic savings on the electricity bill will be 110,728.04 € per year. And these savings will allow us, as a company, to be more sustainable and profitable.

But this investment in the industrial photovoltaic plant was not only for the economic savings. It has also been because 30% of the pavilion’s energy consumption also contributes to reducing CO2 emissions into the atmosphere by 463.86 tons per year.

With the installation of these solar panels, we are taking another step forward in our commitment to sustainability: we can say that, as a company, we are more efficient. In addition, we demonstrate that an industrial company like ours can support initiatives in favor of the environment and the SDGs.
